Radio Certification Type
Radio Certification Type is a CPS/RM field that allows the technician to configure a portable radio to sound a repetitive alert whenever a non-UL battery is attached.
Unlike ATEX, a regular battery pack can be fitted on a TIA-4950/UL-94 certified radio, rendering it not intrinsically safe. Of course, this is a potential hazard and serious safety violation. To prevent non-intrinsically safe batteries being accidentally used on explosion proof radios, this field can be set to UL. Note that this should only be set if the radio is TIA-4950/UL-94 certified.[1]
Older radios might support FM, in which case, this option will appear in the drop-down list.
Fitting a TIA-4950certified battery to a FM3601-88 radio will not make it intrinsically safe.
For non-intrinsically safe radios, this field should be left as None (default).
