There are two CPS/RM settings relating to the Backlight operation.[1] This is the lighting on a display-model radio. There are two tick boxes and one drop-down:

  • Enabling (ticking) On Receiving Over-the-Air Event will make the radio turn the backlight on whenever a call is received.
  • Enabling On User Event will make the radio turn the backlight on whenever the user presses a button.
  • Timeout Timer (Sec) defines how long the backlight remains on before being automatically turned off.

The backlighting consumes a small amount of energy and may reveal the location of a radio at night. Therefore is some applications it is better to disable backlighting altogether.
