Audio Profile section in the general Settings set of a radio codeplug/configuration.

Audio profile is a collection of CPS/RM settings in the General Settings set.[1]

Intelligent Audio Response

Intelligent Audio Response is a CPS/RM setting and feature that allows the radios receive audio level (volume) to be automatically adjusted based on the ambient noise in the room. This saves the user from having to continuously adjust the volume control on their radio, to ensure they can hear radio traffic or not blast everyone in a quiet room.

See Intelligent Audio Response.

Language

Language (not to be confused with Language Pack or Radio Display Language) allows the technician to select an audio profile with some adjustments that make it better suited for languages with certain tonal characteristics. The available selections are

Selection Affect
Default None
Dutch
Indonesian
Italian
Spanish

Although a specific language may not be listed here, it should still be tested as any one of the above may have a positive effect on other languages and user habits.

Preference

Preference is a setting that allows the technician or user (in the case of a display-model radio) to optimize the receiving audio experience according to their listening preferences. The available selections are as follows:

Selection Affect
Default Normal Tx and Rx audio is heard.
Level 1 DSP processes the audio with predefined filters for Level 1.
Level 2 DSP processes the audio with predefined filters for Level 2.
Level 3 DSP processes the audio with predefined filters for Level 3.
Treble Boost DSP processes the audio with predefined filters for Treble Boost.
Mid Boost DSP processes the audio with predefined filters for Mid Boost.
Bass Boost DSP processes the audio with predefined filters for Bass Boost.

User Selectable Audio Profiles allows the user to optimize the audio experience for specific environments. From the radio menu, they can select an environmental profile and one user preference profile at a given time. For display-model radio, the user can select Environment or Preference through the Radio Menu. For non-display-model radios, the technician can select Environment or Preference through CPS or RM only. This is a radio-wide feature and only available in Digital mode.

When a Bluetooth audio accessory is connected to the radio, the Audio Ambience and Audio Profile menu on the radio are blocked and the user is not allowed to access this feature. Audio profile and ambience will behave as default. For non-display models, the technician is able to select the audio ambience and audio profile and write this to radio. However, the audio profile and ambience will behave as default.

Acoustic Feedback Suppression

When two or more radio users from the same team are close to one another, and one of those users transmits, their voice is heard on the neighbouring radios. This can often result in a continuous looped back sound or a howling/squealing noise which can be frustrating for all users on the same Talkgroup. To prevent this, Acoustic Feedback Suppression can be enabled, by the radio user via the menu, or by a technician in the CPS or RM.

Acoustic Feedback Suppression is a digital only feature so therefore will not work on analogue channels.

Noise Suppressor

The Noise Suppressor feature enables the transmitting radio to automatically suppress noise on the microphone when detected. This gives users a better audio experience by reducing unwanted ambient sounds. It is recommended to always have this feature enabled in the transmitting radio.

The following selections are supported:

  1. Disabled disables the Noise Suppressor feature altogether. However, the AMBE+2 vocoder does provide some noise cancellation itself.
  2. Basic implements basic noise suppression and is available on all radios.
  3. Enhanced Auto noise suppression is applied dynamically. In quiet environments, the noise suppression is relaxed so that the audio is more natural sounding. In noisy environments, maximum noise suppression is applied. This selection is only available in some models.

Languages that have guttural sound are impacted by noise suppression. To improve the audio quality, consider disabling this feature. In extremely noisy environments, the noise suppressor may not effectively remove all ambient noise. Maintaining a speech to noise ratio of more than 6dB is recommended for the noise suppressor to be effective. Users can achieve this by speaking loudly (but not shouting) and clearly as well as by holding the radio or accessory microphone in the position recommended in the user guide.

Fast Noise Suppressor Training Period

The Noise Suppressor feature enables the transmitting radio to automatically suppress noise on the microphone when detected. The CPS/RM has an option to set this to either 10; 15;30;60;300 or 600 seconds. There are also options to set it to disabled or continuous. This setting is hidden if the Noise Suppressor for single microphone (SINC+) is not purchased or Noise Suppressor is disabled.

RX Audio Levelling

RX Audio Levelling allows a radio user to have a better audio experience when the received digital audio level is soft or too loud. When enabled, the radio automatically controls the active speech level in the received audio. This is a radio-wide CPS/RM setting and is only supported in digital mode.
