Automatic Gain Control

From MOTOTRBO

All radio users speak in a different tone of voice and when angry or under stress, people tend to speak louder[1]. Also, in environments with a high level of noise (e.g. due to machinery or crowds of noisy people), radio users will inadvertently raise their voice when talking on the radio[2]. To ensure the received signal on a MOTOTRBO system is always at more or less the same volume under all conditions, Automatic Gain Control (AGC) can be enabled. This automatically adjusts the microphone level on the transmitting radio, to ensure a consistent audio level.

With AGC enabled, louder sounds are made softer while softer sounds remain mostly untouched.

  • Enabling AGC is highly recommended.
  • It is enabled in all MOTOTRBO radios by default.
